On August 30, 2018 the City of Attleboro finalized the purchase of Highland Country Club. The 93 acres had served as a majestic golf course from 1901 until members filed for bankruptcy earlier in the year.
Mayor Paul Heroux appointed 17 members to the Highland Future Use Committee to assemble ideas for the sprawling parcel and then choose the best and most feasible options.
On December 13, 2018, David Doran, his wife Anne, and son Kyle presented a donation of $50,000 to the City for running, walking and biking trails at the newly acquired HCC. The donation was funded by the Doran family business, Doranco, Inc., a manufacturing company on West Street in Attleboro. Long known for their charitable endeavors in our community, the Dorans wished to help preserve the 93 acres for recreational purposes.
“That land is a jewel, and the idea behind our donation is to make sure that the land is preserved for future generations,” he said. Being raised in the Catholic Church, David said he and his family always stressed the importance of giving. “This is the way our parents brought us up. We hope to help others and give back when we can,” he said.
